Description

Client needs vary and volunteers get to help with the things that they feel comfortable with.

Some examples of things that volunteers may help with are:

  • Being a good listener, providing companionship and individual attention
  • Providing respite care for family caregivers
  • Assisting with meal planning and preparation, helping with light grocery shopping
  • Assisting with tasks of daily living
  • Monitoring medication or assisting with exercises
  • Assist with light household chores, getting the mail, making the bed, doing dishes, taking out the trash, helping with laundry
  • Accompanying to the doctor for treatment, to nutrition site, to recreational or social events
  • Helping write letters, reading, filling out forms
  • Giving encouragement, taking walks, exercising, participating in activities of interest to the client such as playing cards, games, and hobbies

Volunteer Benefits:
Income eligible volunteers qualify for a stipend

Volunteer commitment is 5 to 40 hours per week.

The FHSU Senior Companion Program serves the following counties: Barton, Ellis, Ford, Gove, Graham, Hodgeman, Ness, Pawnee, Phillips, Rooks, Rush, Russell, and Trego.
